We are happy that we can help
you with most of your travel necessities. We suggest to start planning for your
travel related medical necessities about 1-2 months before travel.
The
official recommendations for travel immunizations and malaria prevention from
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) can be accessed following the
link:
http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/
If immunizations or malaria
medications are needed or if you have questions and would like to talk to our
nurses, please have the following information available:
-
Countries of destination and exact regions
-
Dates of
departure and return
-
Current
immunization status (if it was not all in our practice)
-
Current
medication
-
Allergies
We can provide the following
immunizations:
|
Vaccine
|
Recommendations:
|
|
Routine
|
Recommended if you
are not up-to-date with routine shots such as, measles/mumps/rubella (MMR)
vaccine, diphtheria/pertussis/tetanus (DPT) vaccine, poliovirus vaccine, etc.
|
|
Hepatitis A
|
Recommended for all unvaccinated people
traveling to or working in countries with an intermediate or high level of
hepatitis A virus infection
(see map)
where exposure might occur
through food or water. Cases of travel-related hepatitis A can also occur in
travelers to developing countries with "standard" tourist itineraries,
accommodations, and food consumption behaviors.
|
|
Hepatitis B
|
Recommended
for all unvaccinated persons traveling to or working in countries with
intermediate to high levels of endemic Hepatitis B transmission
(see map)
, especially those
who might be exposed to blood or body fluids, have sexual contact with the local
population, or be exposed through medical treatment (e.g., for an accident).
|
|
Polio
|
Recommended for travelers over 18 years of age who have received a primary
series with either inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) or oral polio vaccine
(OPV), or travelers who have not completed their series. They should receive
another dose of IPV before departure. For adults, available data do not indicate
the need for more than a single lifetime booster dose with IPV.

|
|
Typhoid
|
Recommended for all
unvaccinated people traveling to or working in many countries of Central and
South America, Caribbean, Asia and Africa especially if visiting smaller cities,
villages, or rural areas and staying with friends or relatives where exposure
might occur through food or water.
There are two typhoid vaccines- one
is in pill form and can be administered to kids older than 6, and one injectable
that is available for kids older than 2 years of age. There is no vaccine
available for kids under 2. Our providers can write
prescriptions for the pill or injectable vaccine for the pharmacy to dispense
the medicine and you can bring it to our office and the nurses can give the
injection.
|
|
Rabies
|
Recommended for travelers to certain countries who will be spending a lot of
time outdoors, especially in rural areas, involved in activities such as
bicycling, camping, hiking, or work. Also, children are considered at higher
risk because they tend to play with animals and may not report bites. Our
providers can write prescriptions for the injectable vaccine for the pharmacy to
dispense the medicine and you can bring it to our office and the nurses can give
the injection.

Please check with your insurance
to verify coverage and have your pharmacy name and location.
Our providers can provide
prescriptions for medicine to prevent malaria infections.
We can not provide Yellow Fever
or Japanese encephalitis vaccines. If any of our patients plan traveling to
areas that require these two immunizations, we recommend a visit to one of the
